The 21st annual Burnham-On-Sea triathlon – a 500m swim followed by a 20km cycle and then a 5km run- will take place this Sunday (June 10th).

When the event first started, it attracted 100 participants – it now has 320 competitors taking part this weekend.

It will start at 8am with participants beginning their swim in Burnham Pool, then cycling out along Love Lane towards Tesco and then to the Edithmead roundabout, heading north past Brent Knoll and along the A370 towards Lympsham and Berrow, then returning back to the pool along the Berrow Road.

The run section heads out from the Pool onto the beach, then onto the golf course and returns back along the beach to the finish.

The event is organised by Sedgemoor District Council’s Leisure and Lifestyles Service, with the support of 60 volunteers from the local community. Presentations will be made to the winners at 1pm.

Race organiser Rob Semple told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Events like this could not go ahead if it wasn’t for the help we receive from local organisations. We are very grateful to the staff of Burnham Pool, Sedgemoor District Council, The Lions, Wessex Ambulance Service, the Police, the staff at King Alfred Sports Centre, and the many local volunteers who give up their time to help out on the day.”
