260
athletes complete 21st annual Burnham-On-Sea triathlon

Celia Miall, pictured here, won the women's competition when more
than 260 athletes swam, ran and cycled their way over 25km during
Burnham-On-Sea's
21st annual
triathlon on
Sunday
(June 10th).
Hot summer sunshine brought sweltering conditions for the 260
competitors, but the event went off without a hitch.
The
event included a
500m swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run.
The
weather meant times were slower than in some previous years, but
Iain Hindes, 38, of Barnstaple won the event in a time of 1 hour,
1 minute and two seconds and told Burnham-On-Sea.com he was "delighted"
with his result.
Our
photo above shows the award winners at Sunday's presentation ceremony
alongside Sedgemoor District Council Chairman Dennis Davey, town
Mayor Pauline Pollard and Mayor's
Cadet Mark Schroeder, who jointly handed over the prizes.
86-year-old
Arthur
Gilbert,
who regularly completes the triathlon, was not able to take part
this year due to a bout of shingles. The oldest competitor was
therefore 74-year-old Ron
Hollick of Taunton, who finished in 226th place with a time
of 1:37:12. He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "I'm very pleased
with how it's gone."
Race
organiser Rob Semple told Burnham-On-Sea.com the event had been
another great success and added: "Events like this could
not go ahead if it wasnt for the help we receive from local
organisations."
"We
are very grateful to the staff of Burnham Pool, Sedgemoor District
Council, The Lions, Wessex Ambulance Service, the Police, the
staff at King Alfred Sports Centre, and the many local volunteers
who give up their time to help out on the day."
