Car
saved in race against tide as mud catches out Brean
motorist

Crowds
of holidaymakers rushed to help the anxious owner of this car
when he got that sinking feeling in mud at Brean, near Burnham-On-Sea,
this week.
The
car had been driven along the shoreline when its wheels started
to sink into the soft sand and mud, leaving it stranded.
With
the tide rolling in, the waves began to lap against the side of
the vehicle and a race against time began.
One
eyewitness, who lives nearby, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It
was dramatic - at one point there were over 20 people pulling
and pushing the car out of the water."
"We
started to wonder whether the car might be lost to the mud like
two vehicles were here last year."
Fortunately,
though, for the owner, the car was pulled free at the last minute
- saving the owner from a huge repair bill.
Police were also called and spokesman Ian Drury told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"I can confirm we were called at 5.45pm on Sunday to a report
of a vehicle being trapped on the beach with seawater coming in."

The
incident was one of several involving vehicles along Burnham's
coastline during the last few months. On May 25th, a vehicle became
trapped in the
sea at Brean while its owner tried to retrieve his jet ski.
On
May 12th, a car was pulled
free from soft sand on Burnham beach when it became trapped.
And on April 29th, local rescue charity BARB was called to Burnham's
jetty to help pull
free a tractor which had become trapped in mud.
