Highbridge
parking charges slashed in bid to help struggling businesses

Car
parking charges in the centre of Highbridge have this week been
slashed in an effort to stimulate trade following the controversial
closure of the town's Walrow rail bridge.
District
councillors have approved new charges of just 10 pence for an
hour's parking at the Bank Street car park in the centre of the
town (pictured) in an attempt to help struggling businesses.
Nicola
Slawski, Group Manager of Regeneration at Sedgemoor District Council,
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The council's Executive Committee
discussed the proposal this week and is very supportive of Highbridge."
"The
cost of an hour's car parking at Bank Street has gone down from
40 pence to just ten pence. This
will be trialled for three months, then reviewed to see what impact
it has had."
"Shoppers
need lots of incentives to visit Highbridge at the moment while
discussions to bring forward the Walrow rail bridge work continue."
Burnham-On-Sea.com
exclusively broke
the news in March that the previously busy bridge, pictured
above, would close for up to four years due to much-needed strengthening
work. Since then, traders have seen a big downturn in trade and
a huge campaign has been launched to get it re-opened.
