Renovation
work on damaged Highbridge war memorial is completed
Thousands
of pounds worth of work to restore Highbridge's war memorial to
its former glory has been completed this week.
We
reported in February
how paving
slabs around the Church Street landmark had split and
the base of the monument itself had been cracked by passing traffic
during recent roadworks.
A
month-long programme of work to renew pavements and strengthen
the base of the structure was started by Somerset County Council's
Highways Department last month and has just finished this week.
The
work's completion means the memorial will now take pride of place
at the centre of Highbridge's annual Remembrance Day ceremony
on Sunday November 11th. Burnham
and Highbridge Royal British Legion has welcomed the work.
