Two boats in the River Brue at Burnham-On-Sea were damaged when 70mph winds swept them from their moorings on Thursday afternoon (January 11th).
Heavy gales battered the area throughout the day and Burnham Sailing Club Commodore Terry Moul told Burnham-On-Sea.com that a 28ft sloop and a neighbouring boat had suffered some damage during the lunchtime high tide.
“The boats broke free of their moorings at the pontoons,” he said. “We got a couple of guys down there quickly to attach some ropes and avoid any major damage.”
Elsewhere, several trees in Burnham and at Brean were brought down during the bad weather but no serious damage was reported.
