Futuristic £2 million water fountain to attract tourists to Burnham?

Exciting plans to create a huge £2 million water fountain on Stert Island to bring “thousands” of extra tourists to Burnham-On-Sea are set to be unveiled on Tuesday (April 1st).

The eye-catching feature – similar to the one pictured on the right – is the brainchild of Lil Faroop, a Russian entrepreneur and architect.

She says she has wanted to build one of the 500-metre water spout somewhere in the UK for years.

“The fountain would be solar-powered and use filtered sea water straight from Bridgwater Bay,” she said.

“I am convinced it would attract thousands of extra visitors to Burnham and would generate income from boat trips to see it up close.”

But the idea is sure to create a stir with environmentalists keen to preserve Stert Island (pictured at the top of this page) as a haven for birds and other wildlife.

District planners have yet to see a full planning application, but may get more details shortly.
