‘Sort out safety at this dangerous junction,’ call Highbridge councillors

-

Concerned councillors in Highbridge have this week called for safety improvements to be made to a busy road junction in the town after a series of ‘near-miss’ accidents.

The junction of Caxton Road and the A38 besides the infamous Asda roundabout – once dubbed the ‘wonkybout’ because of its shape – has been the scene of several near-misses during recent weeks due to a lack of road markings.

Councillors Joe Leach and John Laband (both pictured at the junction) are putting pressure on Somerset County Council’s Highways team to repaint the road with arrows to ensure that motorists use the correct lanes.

“Recently, the roundabout has been the scene of many near-misses, but all that was done to improve safety was letters on the Edithmead approach which few drivers are taking notice of,” Cllr Leach told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“This is a serious matter. Several times I and many others have been cut up on this roundabout. It’s only due to quick reactions that accidents have been avoided.”

Cllr Laband added: “A procedure to introduce proper markings should be mandatory on these roundabouts. It’s pure common sense.”
