Burnham-On-Sea’s BAY Centre receives replacement PCs after break-in

Computer equipment worth more than £500 was formally handed over to Burnham-On-Sea’s BAY Centre by Duncan McGinty, the leader of Sedgemoor District Council on Thursday evening (October 2nd) following the club’s break-in during August.

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported in August how the Burnham Area Youth Centre in Casis Close had been broken into on Saturday August 9th when mean thieves fled with PCs and other IT equipment.

Sedgemoor District Council said it would be donating replacement equipment to the club through its three-year recycling replacement programme – and the new kit is now in place.

Mr McGinty told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I was very sorry to hear about the break-in during August and said that because Sedgemoor District Council operates a system of making redundant PCs available to community groups and parish councils, I would bring it to the attention of our IS department and see what could be done.”

“I received a written request for two PCs and they were handed over to the Bay Centre in late August.”

“I subsequently received a request for more equipment, including mice and keyboards, and while delivering these took the opportunity to visit the Bay Centre on Thursday evening to see the improvements and additions that have been made.”

“It was also the evening when the Burnham and Highbridge Gateway Club and Burnham-On-Sea Camera Club operate so I was able to see the vital contribution that a vibrant and well run community facility like this can make.”
