Call
for volunteers to help during Berrow Dunes conservation day
Conservation
volunteers are being invited to help with a day of scrub clearance
and other work at Berrow Dunes this Sunday (February 17th).
Sedgemoor
Conservation Volunteers will be visiting the nature reserve to
undertake a day of work, including clearance and marram grass
planting.
Volunteers
are invited to help and will need protective gloves, suitable
clothing and a packed lunch.
The
volunteers will meet in the nature reserve's car park opposite
Sandy Glade Caravan Park in Coast Road, Berrow at 10.30am.
Berrow
Dunes has long been recognised as an important area for nature
conservation with the nature reserve deemed to be a Site of Special
Scientific Interest (SSSI).
The
sand dunes are considered rare, both on a national and local scale
as they contain a wide variety of coastal habitats supportting
a range of flora and fauna. At least 270 flowering plants have
been recorded in the area.
The
reserve is actively managed by Sedgemoor District Council, Natural
England and Somerset Wildlife Trust.
