photos: Nature in the spotlight at Berrow Dunes Discovery Day
Scores
of visitors to Berrow Nature Reserve, near Burnham-On-Sea, were
given guided tours of the local wildlife during a special Dune
Discovery Day on Saturday afetrnoon (July 26th).
A
range of activities for all ages took place, including guided
tours, a wildlife quiz, sand craft, plant hunting and badge making.
"The
Discovery Day was held to raise awareness of the wildlife importance
of the local nature reserve," district council spokeswoman
Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"Berrow
Dunes supports one of the most diverse floras in Somerset, with
at least 270 species of flowering plant being recorded."
Sedgemoor District Council, in partnership with Natural England,
Somerset Wildlife Trust and Berrow Conservation Group, hosted
the event. The tours were conducted by local experts Tony Smith
and Bob Corns.
