Berrow
residents air their concerns to local police
Berrow
residents met local police on Tuesday (January 22nd) to discuss
their concerns regarding problems in the village.
Eighty
people filled Berrow Village Hall for the meeting, which was organised
by PC Pete Wills (pictured) and Police Community Support Officer
Elliot Green to encourage residents to talk about how they want
their village policed.
A
survey at the meeting found the biggest concern was speeding (26%),
safety at night (14%), parking issues (9%), the condition of footpaths
(9%), fear of having property stolen (9%), a need for a zebra
crossing (9%), while five per cent said there were no problems.
PC
Wills said: "Meetings like this are vital to a small community
like Berrow - it gives villagers the chance to meet us face-to-face
and air any issues they might have."
"Before
the meeting we were aware of concerns such as parking around Berrow
School and youth issues in the village."
"Following
the meeting we have several tasks that villagers would like us
to progress and we will be reporting back to the parish council."
He
added that a meeting is being arranged with the school, local
residents and the County Council's highways department to find
a solution for the parking issues at the school and a zebra crossing
near to the post office.
The
PCSO beat manager also plans to visit various clubs in the evening
to discuss the fear of crime.
