James
Bond gives Burnham-On-Sea's
new-look
cinema a boost!
Burnham-On-Sea's
new-look cinema has been given a boost this week... thanks to
James Bond!
Large
audiences have been flocking to the renovated Ritz Cinema in Victoria
Street, where the new blockbuster Bond movie 'Quantum of Solace'
has been playing in front of large crowds.
"It's
been a very busy opening few days for the film," cinema owner
Pat Scott
told Burnham-On-Sea.com. "Many
screenings have been almost full and we
increased the number of screenings to keep up with the interest."
He
added that audiences coming to watch the action-packed film have
also been impressed with the results of several months of work
to renovate the exterior of the building, pictured here.
Burnham-On-Sea.com
first reported in August
how the 72 year-old building had been awarded a £6,000 share
of a £475,000 windfall from the UK Film Council.
"Our
customers and everyone here is delighted with the new look,"
said Pat. "It's given the outside of the building a fresh
look."
The
work is almost complete, with new lighting in place and a new
coat of paint and rendering work.
Peter
Buckingham, the UK Film Council's head of distribution and exhibition,
said earlier this year: "Independent cinemas often represent
the hub of a local community, but many can't afford to upgrade
their facilities."
