Brean couple prepare for emotional wedding after fire destroys home

-

A Brean couple whose home was destroyed in a huge fire last month are making final preparations for their wedding on Monday (December 22nd).

Burnham-On-Sea.com broke the news on November 23rd that a devastating fire had swept through a wooden chalet owned by Brean beach warden Ron Sharrard and his partner Angela Davies (pictured).

Fire crews from across the county tackled the blaze, but they could not save the property or two Yorkshire Terriers trapped inside. Despite the traumatic events, however, the couple are set to marry on Monday afternoon in Brean’s St Bridget’s Church.

Ron told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Saturday: “The nerves are starting to build, but we’re both very much looking forwards to the big day. Everything is in place to make it a very special occasion.”

Meanwhile, support and money continue to be given to the couple.

On Saturday (December 20th), they were presented with the proceeds of a fundraising event by town councillor Joe Leach, pictured here.

Cllr Leach explained: “We raised £68 from a raffle at the Liberal Democrats’ Christmas dinner after it was agreed that there is no better cause. Everyone has felt for them in recent weeks.”

Danny Pearce, a friend of the couple and landlord of The Railway pub, added: “Over £500 has now been raised and we intend to buy the honeymoon tickets shortly.”

Ron again thanked the community for their support, adding: “We’ve been bowled over by the support of people in the Burnham area – it’s been simply superb.”
