Dozens
of runners take part in gruelling Brent Knoll Run
A
record turnout of almost 150 runners from across the South West
took part in the annual gruelling race from Burnham-On-Sea to
the top of Brent Knoll and back on Sunday (November 30th).
The
5.5 mile Brent Knoll Run has been held for more than 20 years,
having originally been started as a small race attached to the
village's summer fete. Burnham Harriers took over it several years
ago and moved it to the winter to make it more competitive.
Organiser
Brian Beale of Burnham Harriers told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Sunday
he had been "delighted" with how this year's event had
gone.
"It's been bitterly cold and slippery under foot, but we've
had a huge turnout and the race went well," he said.
The
runners started at Burnham's BASC ground in Stoddens Road before
going cross-country over the fields to the summit of Brent Knoll
and back.
Sunday's
race was won by Carl Plumpton of Portsmouth Athletic Club for
the second year running. He completed the event in a time of 38
minutes and six seconds, which was 41 seconds ahead of second-placed
Chris Burton from Yeovil. Jenny Moore was the first lady home.
