Burnham BMX Club apologises after complaints about late night
noise
Burnham-On-Sea
BMX Club has issued an apology to residents living near its track
at Apex Park after complaints about noise during last weekend's
two-day cycling event.
Matt
Duckering, Club Secretary, said the group is sorry following complaints
from several local residents about late night noise after the
event over-ran until 10.30pm last Saturday, as first highlighted
here
in Burnham's discussion forums.
"The club unreservedly apologise for any disturbance caused
during the event," he said. "Although the event was
a great sporting success, this does not excuse any collateral
damage caused to the local community."
"Unfortunately, the event did over-run the schedule slightly
due to injuries during the day's racing which had a knock on affect
to the evening."
"During the planning of the event the contact numbers of
the club committee were passed to the council with the assurance
that we would be on call to carry out any remedial action."
Mr
Duckering added: "Unfortunately, none of the club were contacted
informing us of the adverse affects the event was having on the
local community. This is not an attempt to shift blame, but merely
an attempt to demonstrate that the club had made prior considerations."
"It has been noted on Burnham-On-Sea.com forums that local
residents attempted to approach the commentator and were met with
aggressive behaviour. I can unequivocally guarantee that this
did not happen - again the committee was not approached and any
individual trying to speak to the commentator would have had to
negotiate the competitors riding the track."
"Unfortunately, now the event is over, the club can only
apologise again and assure the local community that if the club
are lucky enough to be offered another event in the future that
every measure will be taken to minimise any adverse effects."
