Burnham-On-Sea’s annual Civic Awards winners are announced

-

The five winners of this year’s Burnham-On-Sea Civic Awards were announced by the town’s Mayor on Monday evening (August 4th).

John Coombes, Bob Nicholson, Barbara Thorogood, Hilary Rose and Jean Whitehouse have all been nominated for their work in the Burnham and Highbridge community.

The late Mr Coombes was nominated for his contribution to the social, cultural and intellectual life of Burnham.

He sadly died in April this year just days after hearing he had been nominated and his wife Pat will therefore collect his award at the annual Civic Awards ceremony in Burnham’s St Andrew’s Church on Sunday August 24th.

Barbara Thorogood, pictured above, was nominated for her years of involvement within Burnham’s Gateway Club, BAY Centre, playgroup and Stroke Club.

Bob Nicholson, pictured right, has been nominated as a driving force in the promotion of local tourism for some 30 years.

Hilary Rose was put forward for her long involvement with the Sea Cadet Unit and the French Twinning Association.

And Jean Whitehouse was put nominated as one of the driving forces behind the conception of the Highbridge Community Hall.

The Civic Awards Service will start at 3pm on August 24th and will be followed by a reception in the town’s Manor Gardens.
