Biggest Cod of the season so far
reeled in by angler off Burnham
This
bumper-sized cod was caught by a sea angler fishing near Burnham-On-Sea
this week.
The
huge 12lb 8oz Cod was reeled in by Terry Giles, a Weston Angling
Club member, onboard the Burnham fishing boat 'Kelly's Hero' on
Sunday (January 6th).
"The
cod is the biggest of the season so far and was caught just a
mile off Burnham-On-Sea, even though we'd travelled eight miles
out into the Bristol Channel earlier in the day to deeper water,"
said Dave Saunders, owner of the fishing boat.
"The
cod was caught at 3.20pm, about two hours before High Water, and
the bait used was rag worm and squid tip."
This
week's catch is not the biggest on record, though. A monster 26lb
4oz specimen was caught on December 29th, 2005 near Hinkley Point,
as reported
here by Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Terry was delighted with his catch and claims he was always confident
that it would be him that landed the fish of the day.
"There's
always loads of banter with this group of fisherman, who have
fished from Kelly's Hero for the past eight years," said
Dave.
