£50,000 of repairs needed at Burnham-On-Sea Community Centre

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s community centre needs £50,000 in order to carry out vital repair work.

The committee that runs the building in Berrow Road, pictured here, has applied to Sedgemoor District Council for funding to help it proceed with major work on its roof.

Ken Hindle of the Community Centre’s commitee told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve applied to Sedgemoor for £35,000 and have agreed to put in £15,000 of funding ourselves in order to gather the £50,000.”

“The bulk of the money is needed to repair the roof of the building. A recent property survey identified it as needing attention. Other modernisation work is also needed inside.”

He added: “Now that the Princess regeneration has been put on hold, we want to put in place a long-term strategy for the centre. It is used by 1,600 people every month and we want to preserve it for future generations.”
