Counterfeit
DVDs and recording equipment seized by Burnham police
A
50-year-old Burnham-On-Sea man has been arrested and a large quantity
of suspected counterfeit DVDs was seized by police in the town
on Wednesday (May 21st).
In
a joint operation with Somerset Trading Standards officers, police
swooped on an address in Burnham on Wednesday morning and then
took away large numbers of DVDs together with recording equipment
for allegedly creating illegal copies.
Sgt
Ian Kennett, pictured with some of the seized items, told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"There is good co-operation between the police and other
agencies, including Trading Standards, and the message is that
people who commit criminal offences will be targeted."
"Any
information from the public will be treated confidentially and
whenever possible will be acted upon."
He
added that not only does the creation of counterfeit goods adversely
affect the media industry, but it often funds criminal activity
and breaks the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
Wednesday's
haul comes just weeks after Burnham-On-Sea.com exclusively
reported that £8,000 of items had been seized by police
at Highbridge Market.
Sgt
Kennett is pictured above collating some of the items seized during
Wednesday's warrant. The haul, with a street value believed to
be thousands of pounds, is pictured below.
