Yachts
hoisted from river during Burnham-On-Sea's winter 'crane-out'

More
than 20 yachts were winched into the skies above the River Brue
in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday morning (October 18th) when the
annual spectacle of the winter 'crane-out' took place.
Organisers
from Burnham's Yacht Club took advantage of the high tide and
calm weather conditions to proceed with the delicate operation
to move 23 vessels out of the river into the club's boat yard,
as pictured here.
The
event happens each year at this time and marks the end of the
summer sailing season.
The
boats are moved into safe storage in the Sailing Club's boat yard
during the winter months and then craned-in during April at the
start of the spring sailing season.
Two
huge cranes towered over Burnham's skyline during the work, which
started early on Saturday morning and lasted until lunchtime.
