With a brand new year upon us, the dates of several leading Burnham-On-Sea events for 2008 have been announced.
We’ve listed the key events below, so you can update your new diary and calendar for the year ahead.
2008 Highbridge Festival of the Arts: Wed 27 Feb – Sat 8 March
The popular festival of the performing arts, now in its 61st year, gets started on February 27th. Categories include: Dance: 27 Feb-02 March; Speech & Drama: 3 & 4 March; Vocal: 5 & 6 March; Instrumental: 7 & 8 March; The winners concert will be held on Saturday 15 March. All events are held at The Princess Hall in Burnham.
2008 British Land Yachting Championships: Sat 15 – Sun 16 Mar
The long sandy beach at Brean makes an ideal venue for this exhilarating sport. Come and watch the graceful land yachts wing their way across the sands.
2008 Burnham Aquathon: Sun 13 April (pending decision on future of pool)
Your chance to practice for the Burnham Triathlon. At Burnham Pool.
2008 Burnham Triathlon: 1 June (pending decision on future of pool)
The popular triathlon sees over 300 competitors tackle a gruelling course, including 20 lengths of Burnham pool, a 20km cycle and a 5km beach run. Starts at Burnham Pool at 8.00am.
14th Annual Vale of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run: Sat 7 June
Over 300 vintage vehicles take part in this charity road run. The vehicles line up for viewing on the South Esplanade in Burnham-On-Sea in the early evening before returning to Glastonbury.
2008 Burnham-On-Sea Seafront Fireworks: Sun 9 Nov
After being cancelled last year due to bad weather, the organisers of this annual display will be crossing their fingers for calm weather!
2008 Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea Carnival: Mon 10 Nov
The carnival comes to Burnham-On-Sea, featuring dozens of large illuminated carnival carts. Starts at 7.30pm.
2008 Christmas Lights Switch On: Sat 29 November
The grand switch-on of Burnham-On-Sea’s Christmas lights will be performed by a special VIP, along with music and entertainment from local groups.
