Two Highbridge men appear before magistrates on drugs charges
Two
men appeared before Sedgemoor Magistrates Court on Tuesday (October
7th) charged with possession of controlled drugs with intent to
supply.
A
28 year old man who was arrested and charged following
a warrant at Highbridge Quay in July has been bailed to
appear at Taunton Crown Court in November for sentencing.
Another
55 year old man who was arrested and charged following
a warrant at Morland Road in Highbridge in August was also
bailed to reappear at Sedgemoor Magistrates Court later this month.
It
came after continuing work by police in Burnham and Highbridge
to tackle street level drug dealing.
A
series of Misuse of Drugs Act warrants have been executed over
the summer in the two towns, resulting in numerous arrests and
the seizure of thousands of pounds worth of controlled drugs ranging
from Class A to Class C. Most recently, two Misuse of Drugs Act
warrants were carried out in Highbridge Quay on Tuesday morning.
Burnham-On-Sea
Police Sergeant Ian Kennett said: "The warrants we have carried
out over the summer are just part of our ongoing commitment to
stamp down on drug dealing, drug use and drug related crime in
Burnham and Highbridge."
"Community
intelligence is key to our work and we hope that these results
reassure local residents that we will act on the information they
provide. Our Safer Stronger Neighbourhood teams will continue
to spend time building strong links with the local community and
are holding a street briefing at Highbridge Quay on Friday October
10 at 2pm to give those living in the area the chance to raise
any issues they feel are affecting their neighbourhood."
"We
will not tolerate this type of crime in Burnham and Highbridge
and are determined to help improve the quality of life for those
living in the area."
If
you have any information regarding drug-related crime, contact
Burnham Police Station on 0845 456 7000 or call Crimestoppers
on 0800 555 111.
