Seldom seen duck turns heads at Highbridge's Apex Leisure Park

A Greater Scaup duck at Apex Leisure Park in HighbridgeA seldom-seen species of duck has been turning heads at Apex Leisure Park in Highbridge this week.

The Greater Scaup is not rare to Northern Europe, but is fairly unusual to this part of the country - and has been attracting the interest of bird watchers during recent days.

The adult Greater Scaup is 42-51 cm long with a 71-80 cm wingspan and a blue bill and yellow eyes. This male bird - with its dark head, black breast, light back, black tail and white bottom - has been seen in the lakes at Apex in recent days.
