Two suffer minor injuries in Burnham town centre accident

-

The centre of Burnham-On-Sea came to a standstill on Wednesday (November 26th) after a car crashed into a wall.

The Peugeot careered into the side of Burnham Funeral Services next to the Esso roundabout just before mid-day, leading to the temporary closure of Oxford Street.

These photos, taken on a mobile phone, show the scene just after emergency services arrived to help the two occupants inside the car.

Melodie Juste, spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Two rapid response teams and an ambulance were sent to the scene at 11.53am after a vehicle went into a brick wall. Two people were treated for minor injuries.”

They were both taken to Weston General Hospital as a precaution.

A Burnham-On-Sea fire engine was also called to the scene and the brigade’s spokesman, Paul Slavin, said: “Crews assisted paramedics to transfer two people to an ambulance and make the vehicle safe.”

“One person was still inside the vehicle when the fire crew arrived and we worked with the paramedics to help free the man.”

The vehicle suffered front-end damage and was taken away by a recovery service later in the afternoon, when the road fully re-opened to traffic.
