Police
say Highbridge property blaze is being treated as 'suspicious'
Police
investigating a fire at a Highbridge home over the weekend said
on Monday morning (March 10th) that the blaze is being treated
as suspicious.
Fire
crews from Burnham-On-Sea, Street and Bridgwater tackled the blaze
in a ground floor flat in Huntspill Road at 11.30am on Saturday,
as pictured here, and one man was taken to hospital.
Police
spokesman Ian Drury told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday morning:
"I can confirm this fire is being treated as suspicious.
Police and the fire service have been investigating the cause
of the blaze at a flat in Huntspill Road and enquiries are continuing."
The
fire - which appeared to have started near the letter box of the
front door - was tackled by fire fighters using one hose reel
jet and two breathing apparatus.
Fire
officer Ian Hazelton said that while the fire had been confined
to the hallway of the property, there had been "extensive
heat and smoke damage."
A
man was conveyed to Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital, but is not
thought to have been seriously injured. The A38 through Highbridge
was partially closed while emergency services attended the incident,
leading to major hold-ups for motorists.
