Burnham-On-Sea street closed after gas mains ruptured in accident

A road in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea was closed for several hours on Wednesday (March 26th) after a car accident led to a gas leak.

Technical Street was shut for much of the day after an accident caused drama in the centre of town.

Two fire engines from Burnham and a gas detection monitor from Bridgwater were initially sent to the incident at 10.42am.

"On arrival, the crews confirmed that this was an incoming gas main to a flat that had been hit by a vehicle, causing the joint to come undone," fire spokesman Paul Slavin explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Fire crews cordoned off the road - as shown in our photos - and the incident was left with Wales and West Gas Utilities, who spent several hours repairing the damage.

Technical Street did not re-open until later in the afternoon.
