Petition calls for winter opening of Berrow beach access road

Hundreds of angry beach users have signed a petition calling for Berrow Beach to open to vehicles all-year-round.

The petition, signed by 200 people, comes after Sedgemoor District Council took the decision to shut the entrance onto the beach over the winter months at the end of last year.

This was carried out at the request of the village's parish council and local police in an attempt to stop anti-social behaviour and dangerous driving along the sands.

But some beach users - particularly horse riders with large horse boxes that cannot get onto the beach at Brean Cove due to their size - say they are unhappy that access has been blocked due to the entry sliproad being closed between October and Easter. The petition has been handed in to the district council this week.
