Boarded-up
Highbridge Hotel could be derelict for months
An
historic Highbridge
hotel
which was once a key landmark in the town has been boarded up
and could be derelict for several months.
The
Highbridge Inn on the A38 is a listed building seen by thousands
of motorists every day as they travel through the town.
A
spokeswoman for Mead Realisations, the developer that owns the
property, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: "The person
that ran the hotel has gone out of business. We don't expect anything
to happen with the hotel for a while."
"It
may unfortunately be derelict for a few months. We are considering
several options for the property - one is refurbishing it and
another is building flats at the back of it."
Local
councillors and residents have this week called for work to revamp
the property to be brought forward to improve the appearance of
the area.
"It's
so sad to see the building in its current state," one nearby
resident told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"It's
so visible at the entrance to Highbridge and clearly cannot stay
like this for months - we need urgent improvements.."
