New
hovercraft tourism service planned for Burnham-On-Sea
Tourists
in Burnham-On-Sea could soon be offered trips around Bridgwater
Bay in a hovercraft if plans by a commercial hovercraft company
are given the go-ahead.
Hovercraft
Rental wants to launch the service in Burnham this summer and
is in discussions with Bridgwater Bay's Harbour Master, Chris
Spencer, and local councils.
Burnham
and Highbridge Town Council has already stated that it has no
objections to the proposals, providing that safety is fully considered,
that operating hours are restricted to the daytime, and that the
craft only operates outside of the main beach bathing areas.
Hovercraft
Rental's John Roberts said: "It is initially planned to operate
the business during the Burnham-On-Sea Regatta from August 1st
to August 10th. Should demand prove sufficiently high, other events
could be considered in Burnham subject to approval."
The
company's hovercraft, pictured, has already been used at other
public events including the Southport Air Show, Whitehaven Maritime
Festival and Holyhead Festival.
