Man air-lifted to hospital after accident closes Burnham-On-Sea road

A 49-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital after being injured in a road accident in Burnham-On-Sea on Friday afternoon (October 3rd).

A motorcycle collided with a vehicle outside Burnham-On-Sea Memorial Hospital at 3.30pm, leading to the closure of the busy route.

Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with another vehicle at 3.30pm, leading to the closure of the road.”

“Staff from Burnham Medical Centre were quickly on the scene and an air ambulance was also called.”

An ambulance spokesman confirmed: “A 49-year-old female with leg injuries was air-lifted to Frenchay Hospital.”

The air ambulance landed on the playing field at nearby St Andrew’s School (as pictured) and took off with the casualty onboard within a matter of minutes.

The road was fully re-opened to traffic by Burnham police by 4.20pm.
