New
CCTV camera introduced in Burnham's Manor Gardens
A
brand new CCTV camera was installed in Burnham's vandalism-hit
Manor Gardens on Monday (February 18th) in a fresh attempt by
local police to crack down on crime.
The
new CCTV camera, pictured here, was installed in the northern
part of the gardens where it will have good views of both the
gardens and the neighbouring tennis courts.
The
introduction of the new equipment by the Safer Sedgemoor Partnership
and local police comes after a series of graffiti and vandalism
attacks during recent months.
During
the five weeks to the start of February, Burnham police received
and responded to 17 calls from the public regarding problems in
the gardens and surrounding area.
Police
spokesman Dan Mountain told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday: "We
hope the new camera will make people think twice about their actions
and reduce the number of incidents of criminal damage. It will
also help us to monitor problems and alert the neighbourhood beat
team when needed."
The
launch of the new camera comes just weeks after Burnham-On-Sea
police held a special street
briefing in the gardens when Sgt Ian Kennett told the public
that a CCTV camera and Local Action Team were needed to tackle
problems in the gardens.
