Burnham
youth arrested after new attack on Marine Cove shelters
A
youth has been arrested in Burnham-On-Sea this week following
new damage to the boarded-up shelters along the town's seafront.
The
17-year-old was arrested by officers after the latest attack on
one of the Marine Cove shelters in which the wooden boards around
the shelter were ripped down, as pictured, and the interior of
the buildings was attacked.
Police
spokesman Dan Mountain confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: "A
17 year old has been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal
damage. He was taken to Bridgwater Police Station and released
on bail."
We
reported last
month how new CCTV cameras had been installed in the gardens
to help police monitor the area following a spate of incidents
in which the shelters have been vandalised since the beginning
of the year.
The
news comes just days after Burnham-On-Sea.com how ambitious
plans to modernise the gardens had taken a step forward after
town councillors pledged thousands of pounds towards the project.
A
National Lottery cash bid to finance the project is on track and
the town council
is to give two sums of £5,000 towards the scheme over the
next three years, plus a one-off amount of £4,500.
