100 Burnham residents sign petition calling for road safety changes

Almost
100 Burnham-On-Sea residents have signed a new petition calling
for action to tackle anti-social behaviour along a busy road in
the town.
Marine
Drive residents, led by Dennis Jones, have this week handed the
petition to district councillor Joe Leach, pictured, calling for
action.
"It's
horrendous living here," Marine Drive resident Heather Harrison
told Burnham-On-Sea.com. "The problem of anti-social driving
is far wider than just the seafront, where all attention has been
in recent months."
"We
have to endure boy racers seven nights a week, vehicles travelling
at speeds of up to 70mph around the clock, vandalism, speeding
cyclists and stolen property," added Heather, who is among
the 94 people who have signed the petition.
She
added: "One pensioner in her eighties has had the windows
of her home smashed several times by vandals passing by."
Cllr
Leach told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "This petition clearly shows
the strength of feeling about the wide range of problems residents
are facing along Marine Drive."
"I
am working with them to set up a Local Action Team, similar to
the one on the Rosewood estate, and will be putting more pressure
on the police and County Council to sort out the problems here."
