Lib
Dems announce county council election candidate for Burnham North
Liberal
Democrat members in Burnham North have picked local councillor
and lifelong resident Mike Mansfield to fight the Burnham North
County Division in 2009.
Mike, who fought the seat in 2005, said: "I've lived
in the town all my life, and have always wanted to represent the
town I love in County Hall."
Mike is a founding member of Burnham's Louvigne-de-desert twinning
association, and has been Chairman of the group for many years.
He regularly helps at Burnham's Gateway Club and is well-known
for his community work.
Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate Tessa Munt said: "I'm
very pleased Mike has been selected to stand up for the people
of Burnham North. Mike is really well known to local people, has
lived here all his life, and is involved with many local organisations."
"Mike and I have already met hundreds of local residents
and businesspeople, and we look forward to meeting many more on
the doorstep, and at our regular surgeries which are advertised
on Burnham-On-Sea.com and in the local papers."
Joe Leach, leader of the Liberal Democrats on Sedgemoor District
Council, who works with Mike, added: "Mike was selected for
his passionate, hard work which no one can falter. He is respected
by all sides for his fairness and dedication to the community.
I have never been happier with the choice for Burnham North."
Mike has served on Sedgemoor District Council for nine years and
was Leader of the Liberal Democrats there from 2007-2008. He also
serves on Burnham and Highbridge Town Council for the Burnham
East Ward.
