Burnham-On-Sea’s Moose International Lodge has handed out over £6,000 of donations to worthy local groups at its annual charity payout.

The group presented a grand total of £6,306.86 to a long list of local groups during a special ceremony at Berrow Village Hall.

The Moose Ladies’ Circle gave £700 to local charities, including Burnham and Highbridge Stroke club, Retinitus Pigmentosa, Sea Cadets, Burnham Hospital League of Friends, Sounds and Voices, The Jordan Fund and Sedgemoor Badgers.

The Moose Ladies Circle presented £3,204.22 to Whizz Kidz, a children’s charity that helps disabled children throughout the UK.

In the picture are Laurie Lillycrop, Ray Street, Brian Saunders, Governor Terry Cornelius, Whizz Kidz fund-raising manager Ashley Westpfel, Lady President Yvonne Cornelius, Dot Anderson, Maggie Gully, Doreen Ateyo, plus Chris and Rita Harris.

After the presentation, Ashley gave a small message of thanks, saying that he once asked a severely disabled child what difference his motorised wheelchair had made to him. “The child replied ‘I can now choose my own friends’,” said Ashley.

Burnham Moose Governor Terry Cornelius also presented £500 to Kate Budderly of the Jessie May Trust, pictured above during the evening.
