Panic
buying of fuel runs pumps dry at Burnham-On-Sea petrol stations

Panic
buying of petrol left several Burnham-On-Sea fuel stations turning
away customers after their supplies ran out on Saturday and Sunday.
Staff
at the Esso station in Love Lane closed their forecourts at lunchtime
on Saturday (June 14th), as pictured above, where signs apologised
for the lack of supplies.
The
Total garage near Apex Park also ran out of its fuel mid-afternoon
on Saturday, although new supplies were delivered on Sunday.
Brent
Knoll Garage ran out of petrol on Sunday, and other local stations,
including the Texaco garage on Berrow Road (pictured right) were
exceedingly busy.
It
comes amid a nationwide strike by oil tanker drivers which entered
a third day on Sunday. The drivers are threatening more walkouts
throughout the summer unless a pay dispute is settled.
A
staff member at Burnham's Esso station told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"We had a delivery on Friday, but our supplies of fuel ran
out following a very busy 24 hours in which motorists were panic
buying."
He
added that replacement supplies may not arrive until the start
of the new week, although discussions were being held to bring
forward deliveries.
