Three
arrested after dramatic police chase ends in Burnham-On-Sea
A
dramatic police chase through
Burnham-On-Sea ended in a multi-vehicle accident which closed
Love Lane on Monday afternoon (January 14th).
A
blue Volkswagen Golf which had been pursued by Devon and Cornwall
police along the M5 motorway came to an abrupt halt outside the
Dunstan House Inn, as pictured here.
A
police vehicle and two cars were damaged - and one person was
treated for shock by paramedics.
Three
people from the vehicle were arrested, although not before they
tried to flee on foot. Police with sniffer dogs were seen in the
area during the hunt for all those involved. Three people were
later taken to Bridgwater Police Station for questioning.
Earlier,
Devon and Cornwall police had pursued the Volkswagen Golf northbound
to junction 22 at Burnham where it travelled at speed into the
town centre.
It
came to a halt near Burnham Medical Centre at around 4.30pm.
Eyewitnesses
told Burnham-On-Sea.com four police vehicles had been seen following
the car - which is understood to have been stolen - into Burnham.
A
police helicopter from the Devon and Cornwall force was also used
to track the vehicle during the incident and it was seen hovering
over the skies of Burnham.
Police
spokesman Dan Mountain told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "One member
of the public was treated for shock but there were no other injuries."
