Police armed with riot shields swoop on flat in centre of Highbridge

These were the scenes in the centre of Highbridge on Saturday afternoon (January 19th) when police officers armed with riot shields dealt with a serious incident in a flat.

Six teams of officers rushed to Market Street at 3.05pm amid reports that a white male armed with a crow bar had entered a flat near to Smarts Newsagents.

Officers from an armed response unit were seen entering the building equipped with riot shields - as pictured here.

An eyewitness at the scene told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Some time later, another police officer came out of the property with an object - possibly a crow bar - in an evidence bag."

"Eventually a man was removed from the property in handcuffs at 4.15pm and he was taken away by police."
