Burnham police herald seafront speeding crackdown a success

Burnham-On-Sea police have confirmed that a crackdown against speeding motorists along the town's seafront last Friday was a success.

Several drivers were issued with speeding tickets by officers equipped with speed cameras along The Esplanade, as pictured, and first reported here.

A police spokesman told "Two speeding tickets were issued, one vehicle was issued with a ticket for having no valid insurance, and two warnings were issued under Section 59 to motorists playing music too loud."

The operation came amid ongoing concern from seafront residents about the problems of speeding traffic and 'boy racers'. reported in May how Neighbourhood Watch leaders and residents had decided that tackling speed and anti-social use of vehicles along the Esplanade should be the police's second highest priority after dealing with problems in the Manor Gardens.
