Burnham-On-Sea
MP launches campaign to save post offices
Burnham-On-Sea's
MP, David Heathcoat-Amory, has this week launched a new campaign
to stop the closure of post offices in our area.
Ten
post offices across the Wells parliamentary constituency are under
threat and the MP will therefore be holding a series of public
meetings to gather feedback.
Mr
Heathcoat-Amory said: "I am very concerned about the planned
closures, ten of which are in my constituency. I do not accept
that the offices should close and am arranging public meetings
to assess the views of local people."
"The
Labour government already holds the record for closing post offices
faster than any other and now they want to deliver a hammer blow
to community life here in Somerset."
"Post offices are often the centre of village life and are
particularly relied upon by the elderly and people without transport.
We are already suffering reduced services in rural areas. I will
fight to get a rethink on the threatened closures."
