Thousands of homes across Burnham-On-Sea were without power on Saturday night (March 29th) after a “major” electricty cut.

Western Power Distribution confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com that a fault had occurred just after 7pm, affecting 3,000 homes across Burnham.

“There was a major fault at 7.03pm tonight which left 17,000 customers in the area without power, including 3,000 in Burnham,” said a spokesman for the power company on Saturday night.

“The power was reconnected to all homes within six minutes.”

He added: “We are still investigating the reason behind the fault, but we believe it is connected to a fire on a high voltage electricty pole.”

The company apologised for the inconvenience caused.
