Highbridge Liberal Democrats hit out at 'appalling' recycling
facilities
Burnham-On-Sea
and Highbridge Liberal Democrats have called on the Somerset Waste
Partnership and Sedgemoor District Council to address the issue
of the 'appalling' conditions around the Highbridge recycling
facilities in Bank Street car park.
The
facilities were featured last
week by Burnham-On-Sea.com and have been an issue for several
months, with residents complaining that the area is littered with
food, cartons and glass on the floor due to over-flowing bins.
Highbridge
district councillor Joe Leach, who has been working on improving
the services at the facilities, told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday
(August 18th): "Sadly, the Somerset Waste Partnership have
failed to anticipate an increase in recycling and thereby increase
the frequency of their collections. If they want people to recycle
more then great, but give them the provision to do it properly."
Liberal Democrat Prospective parliamentary candidate Tessa Munt
also called for action on Monday, adding: "Clearly people
in Highbridge are really keen to recycle their waste, however
looking at Highbridge's recycling facilities in Bank Street car
Park, the inadequate collection of recyclable waste leaves us
with this appalling mess, which in time will cause other problems
like vermin which no one will want."
"This
is really unsightly and it would be a simple problem for both
SDC and the SWP to resolve."
