Highbridge residents left fuming over overflowing recycling bank

Recycling facilities in Highbridge have been cleaned up after residents complained about rotting food and broken glass being scattered around the site.

The facilities in the town's Bank Street car park were full to over-flowing because residents claimed they are not emptied enough.

Highbridge Lib Dem Councillor Joe Leach told on Tuesday (July 1st): "I looked at the site, expecting a few packets of crisps and maybe some broken bottles, but what greeted me was simply awful. Rotting food, glass, cans and even electronic goods."

"I rang Sedgemoor District Council and they quickly cleaned up the mess, and the Somerset Waste Partnership are now increasing the regularity of their collections."

"The reason they got into this mess is because people are now recycling more, which is good, however the Somerset Waste Partnership obviously didn't anticipate this in their frequency of collections."
