Highbridge residents launch group to tackle overflowing rubbish

A
group of community-spirited Highbridge residents has launched
a scheme to tackle the problem of overflowing recycling bins in
the town centre.
The
group, pictured, will check on the busy recycling centre in Bank
Street at least once a day on a weekly basis and alert the district
council's Clean Surroundings Team whenever there's a problem with
litter overflowing onto pavements at the site.
It
comes just days after Burnham-On-Sea.com reported
how residents had complained collection bins were being infrequently
emptied, thereby leading to paper and bottles spilling out onto
the tarmac and blowing around the town centre.
This
week, Cllr Joe Leach and Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate
Tessa Munt unveiled the new group to tackle the problem.
Tessa
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We aim to keep the Clean Sourroundigs
Team on their toes by letting them know whenever there's a problem.
Launching the group is a sensible idea that helps residents find
a community solution to the issue."
"A
scheme similar to this is already running successfully in Wedmore
and with the recent problems here in Highbridge now is the right
time to start the group."
