Burnham-On-Sea
Rotary Club collects £2,270 during seafront fireworks
Burnham-On-Sea
Rotary Club has announced that it collected a bumper £2,270
for charity during the town's seafront fireworks display last
Sunday.
Twenty
five members of the club wandered up and down the Esplanade collecting
coins from the huge crowd during the fireworks spectacular, which
Burnham-On-Sea.com featured here.
The
Rotary Club was the official collector for the event, and had
a special Sedgemoor District Council Street collection licence.
Rotary
organiser Hugh Mackay told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We were very
pleased that the event went ahead this year and we were grateful
to the generosity of spectators."
"It was fortunate that the rain held off for the actual display,
but it caused everyone to go off at great speed, which meant that
the collection was a little less than in previous years."
"We will as usual be sharing the collected amount on a 60/40
basis with Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, which they use
to support their nominated local charities."
"Our share, £1,360, will go to local charities, with
special reference to our President's theme of children."
