Burnham fire crews rush to M5 services after blaze at Burger King cafe

Sedgemoor Services on the M5 motorway near Burnham-On-Sea was evacuated after a fire broke out in a Burger King cafe on Friday afternoon (March 7th).

Burnham fire brigade was called to the northbound services at 3:45pm after a blaze was found within a kitchen area.

On arrival, the fire crews found the fire had been extinguished by several occupants using two foam extinguishers and two fire blankets.

"The cause of the fire was believed to be overheated cooking oil due to the failure of a thermostat," explained fire spokesman Paul Slavin.
