Highbridge flat fire tackled by Burnham-On-Sea fire crew

Fire crews rushed to Highbridge at 4.45am on Thursday morning (September 18th) after a fire broke out at a property with people inside.

Crews from Burnham, Bridgwater and Street attended the incident at YMCA Riverbed House in Sparks Way to find that there was a fire in the bottom flat and that the property was heavily smoked-logged.

Crews used breathing apparatus to carry out a search of the premises and successfully accounted for all residents.

Crews also used a hose reel jet and positive pressure ventilation system to bring the fire under control.

A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The control centre received a call reporting that alarms were operating. A few minutes later, another call was received from a resident at the premises stating that this was a flat was on fire and that there were persons reported to be inside."

He added that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
