£150,000
up for grabs to sports groups in the Burnham-On-Sea area
Sports
groups in the Burnham-On-Sea area are being encouraged to claim
a share of £150,000 of funding that has been set aside for
introducing new local outdoor leisure facilities.
Sports
groups can submit applications for the funding, which has been
gathered from housing developers during recent years.
Harley
Cook, Sedgemoor's Parks and Open Spaces Policy Officer, explained
to Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Developers of new housing have to
put £800 per property into the council's RLT3 (Recreation,
Leisure and Tourism) budget and the money is then directed into
creating new outdoor leisure facilities in the areas surrounding
new homes."
He
added: "The money has to be spent in the coastal area of
Burnham, Brean or Berrow and also has to be spent within five
years of a planning application being submitted or it gets returned
to the developer."
"Besides
the newly-opened Berrow
games area, there have been no other applications for this
funding during the last sixteen months, why is why such a large
amount is now available to local groups."
"We
are interested in hearing from local sports organisations who
may be interested in submitting an application, and are happy
to discuss any queries."
