An injured cygnet which was retrieved by wildlife rescuers from a Highbridge lake last month after swallowing a length of fishing line has been nursed backed to good health and released back onto the water this week.

We reported last month how East Huntspill’s Secret World Wildlife Centre had teamed up with a boat crew from BARB to help the bird at at Apex Wildlife Park in Highbridge after a walker had spotted two swans struggling in the water after swallowing fishing hooks and line.

One bird was released back onto the water within a few minutes after some swift treatment, but the other required more attention and was taken back to Secret World for two weeks’ treatment.

“The cygnet has made a very good recovery after the hook and line were removed from inside its throat,” Secret World’s Debbie O’Keefe told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “We’re pleased to be able to release him back onto the lake in a fit and healthy state again.”
